Our modern barn coat crafted from traditional Portuguese Burel wool. Structured yet easy, this belted shacket layers beautifully and can be worn buttoned, cinched or left relaxed.

Made from 100% Burel wool, a traditional Portuguese fabric once worn by shepherds in the Serra da Estrela mountains, it is naturally warm, durable and remarkably water-resistant. Lined in soft TENCEL™ with colourful heirloom wool accents beneath the collar and at sleeve cuffs.

The Fieldmate blends heritage craftsmanship with everyday practicality.

The Fieldmate is our refined take on the classic barn coat. Cut in a versatile shacket silhouette that moves easily between town and country. Wear it buttoned up against brisk air, belted for shape, or open and relaxed for effortless layering.

Crafted from 800g Portuguese Burel wool, this heritage textile originates in the Serra da Estrela mountains, where shepherds relied on its warmth and resilience for generations. Densely felted yet breathable, Burel is naturally water-resistant, wind-blocking, and exceptionally durable. Designed to withstand the elements while softening beautifully with time.

Thoughtful details elevate the piece: front pockets with both top and side entry for practicality, a removable belt for styling versatility, and heirloom wool accents under the collar that offer a quiet pop of colour—tying seamlessly into the rest of our collection. Finished with buttons made from natural corozo nut, often called “vegetable ivory”. The interior is fully lined in TENCEL™ for a smooth, comfortable layer against the skin.

Perfect for transitional seasons and year-round layering: when a winter coat feels too heavy, but you still need warmth you can rely on.

A closer look at the colours: Lichen Bark features accents in Perfect Chartreuse, adding a fresh pop of colour to its earthy tones, while Elderberry Fleck is paired with Power Pink for a vibrant contrast. Thoughtful colour details make each version uniquely its own.

Burel wool’s unique fibre structure makes it naturally water-resistant (up to 98.5%), wind-blocking, and dirt-repelling. Even when exposed to moisture, it dries quickly and maintains its integrity.

In most cases, simply air out or vacuum periodically to refresh. Washing is rarely necessary.

Spot clean gently when needed with water and dry eco-clean only if absolutely required.

Before storing, hang your coat outside in fresh air (out of direct sunlight) for a few hours to remove any lingering odours. Then, either fold it along its natural lines into a breathable, natural fibre garment bag or storage box, or hang it on a sturdy, padded hanger to maintain its shape.
